Globacom’s corporate social responsibility arm, the Glo Foundation, held a graduation ceremony on Thursday in Lagos for the first group of participants in its Skillbridge training program.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Glo Skillbridge initiative is a skill development effort aimed at equipping Nigerians with creative and technical abilities to help them expand their opportunities and generate additional sources of income.

The graduating class consisted of selected street sweepers from the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), whose participation in the program is expected to have a transformative impact on their lives.
In her welcome remarks to guests and trainees, Globacom’s Head of Corporate Social Responsibility, Jumobi Mofe Damijo, praised the participants for their dedication and commitment, describing their determination throughout the training as truly inspiring.
“They have provided a strong feedback to us that investing in our community, and creating opportunities for the staff of LAWMA is a great way to give back to society.”

She observed that “completing this creative-technical skills training programme is a significant milestone,” and expressed the commendation of Globacom to each of the trainees for their dedication and hard work all through the training period.
“We know that this training has given you the tools and knowledge to succeed, and we are excitedly looking forward to seeing what you accomplish beyond today in order to open more opportunities for yourselves to have more sources of income to cater for yourselves and your loved ones”, she added.
The Managing Director of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, was represented at the event by the agency’s Executive Director of Finance, Mr Kunle Adebiyi.
He described Globacom’s initiative to train LAWMA staff as highly commendable, noting that it provides an excellent platform for the beneficiaries to develop new income-generating skills.
During the ceremony, the beneficiaries showcased what they had learned in various areas including digital skills, baking, and fashion. A participant who trained in digital skills gave a presentation on using Canva, while another demonstrated knowledge in artificial intelligence.
Several participants were recognized for their exceptional performance during the training. Mrs Obadina Omowunmi Sarah was honored for her excellence in baking. She expressed gratitude to Globacom for the opportunity, revealing that she had long desired a chance to boost her income.
Damilola Olowolafe received recognition for outstanding performance in fashion, while Endurance Francis gave her training slot to her daughter, Udoh Blessing. Blessing, who had always hoped for a chance to receive digital skills training, expressed her excitement and appreciation for the unexpected opportunity. “What I have learnt, if I don’t make use of it, even God will be angry with me”, she said.
