EKO HOT BLOG reports that the decision was reached during Thursday’s legislative sitting following the adoption of a motion moved by the Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele.
In his closing address, Senate President Godswill Akpabio urged all Senate committees to make full use of the break by visiting Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) under their oversight. He clarified that the adjournment was not a holiday but a working recess aimed at enhancing legislative effectiveness through on-ground assessments and monitoring of government activities.
“This is a time for work, not leisure. Senate committees must carry out thorough oversight visits to MDAs and report back accordingly,” Akpabio said.

He also reminded senators elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to participate in the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled to take place at the Presidential Villa by 2 pm on Thursday.
In a similar development, the House of Representatives has officially commenced its annual recess. Lawmakers in the lower chamber adjourned plenary sessions until September 23, 2025.
The announcement was made by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu during Wednesday’s final sitting at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja. The motion for the two-month recess was moved, seconded, and unanimously adopted during plenary.
Both chambers are expected to resume in September with reports and findings from their various oversight engagements.
