EKO HOT BLOG reports that his appointment was confirmed on Thursday during the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Abuja, ending weeks of speculation surrounding the replacement for Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who resigned from the position due to health reasons.
Yilwatda was immediately sworn into office during the meeting, signalling the beginning of a new leadership phase for the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Announcing the development, Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication to President Bola Tinubu, Sunday Dare, shared the news via a post on X, formerly Twitter. He described Yilwatda as a distinguished academic and humanitarian advocate.
Dare wrote: “APC gets new Chairman in Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda. Takes oath of office immediately.”
Yilwatda, born on August 8, 1968, in Dungung, Kanke Local Government Area of Plateau State, is known for his strong advocacy in humanitarian and poverty alleviation programmes. He is also recognised for his academic contributions and public service experience.

His appointment is seen as a strategic move by the APC to reposition itself for future political engagements and strengthen its internal structure.
