President Bola Tinubu has expressed concern that, despite repeated warnings and awareness campaigns by the Federal Ministry of Environment, the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, and the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), incidents of flooding and boat accidents continue to occur.
Eko Hot Blog reports that President Tinubu while extending his condolences to the families and communities affected by the recent flood in Yola, Adamawa State, and the boat accident in Guni village, Niger State, urged opinion leaders and relevant authorities to intensify efforts to promote safety on the waterways.

Acknowledging that flooding is a global issue driven by climate change, Tinubu cautioned citizens against actions that worsen the situation.
He mourned the loss of lives and praised the courage of emergency responders, local divers, volunteers, and community leaders in Adamawa and Niger States who are involved in search and recovery operations.

The President also called on citizens and business owners who rely on waterways for transportation and trade to strictly follow the safety guidelines set by regulatory bodies to prevent further avoidable tragedies.
He has directed the National Emergency Response Centre and NEMA to immediately launch coordinated rescue and relief operations in partnership with state authorities in Adamawa and Niger.
