The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has revealed that Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the construction of an 8.9-kilometre dual carriage road linking the Bodo-Bonny Road to the East-West Road in Rivers State.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Umahi disclosed this on Wednesday while receiving the new Managing Director of Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas, Adeleye Falade, at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.

The minister said the project, estimated at about N150 billion, would be built using concrete pavement technology and would include two flyovers, solar-powered streetlights, tree planting, and CCTV surveillance systems.
“I have listed that project for the President, and he has graciously approved the 8.9km dualised road, this time on concrete, with two flyovers,” Umahi said.
“We have been working with Julius Berger since they are already on site. It is more economical for them to continue. From the information I am getting from PPP, the cost is about N150 billion because it is a very difficult terrain.”

According to him, the Federal Government plans to retain Julius Berger for the project, given its role in delivering the Bodo-Bonny Road.
Umahi added that part of the savings from the completed project had already been used for solar lighting and landscaping along the corridor, assuring that the new road would be completed within 12 months without cost variation.
He commended Tinubu’s infrastructure drive, noting that the administration is focused on delivering durable roads designed to last between 50 and 100 years.
“There is no part of this country where you do not see solid infrastructure work going on. We are not just building roads, we are building roads that will last,” he said.
The minister also highlighted plans to deploy solar lighting and CCTV on major highways to enhance security and boost economic activity.
Earlier, Abdul Humaru introduced the NLNG delegation, noting that the visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration with the ministry.
Speaking during the visit, Falade commended the Federal Government for supporting the Bodo-Bonny Road project, describing it as transformative.
“The road has changed a lot of things about activities on the island.
“I travelled on the road myself from my office in Port Harcourt to Bonny in about one and a half hours, something that would ordinarily take about four hours,” he said.
Falade also welcomed the approval of the new link road, pledging NLNG’s continued support for its execution.
