These announcements were made during the combined 2020 to 2023 President’s NYSC Honours Award ceremony held yesterday in Abuja. The President was represented at the event by the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha.
“You have distinguished yourselves through discipline, commitment, patriotism, and integrity,” she said. “The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation and the Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission will commence your employment processes immediately.”
President Tinubu also paid tribute to the resilience of the physically challenged awardees, assuring them that their bravery would be remembered. “Each awardee will receive a N250,000 grant and a scholarship to pursue postgraduate studies up to the PhD level at any Nigerian university,” he added.
He reaffirmed the importance of young people in nation-building and expressed his administration’s dedication to youth empowerment through programs that promote education, skill acquisition, technology, and innovation.
The honourees included the top male and female performers from various service batches and states. Among the recognized male recipients were Nunaya Polycarp Nunaya (20B, Adamawa/Kwara), Okpogbo Alvin Chinedu (21A, Imo/Cross River), Dr. Ugwa Obinna Mark (23B, Abia/Cross River), and Rabiu Quadri Mayokun (23C, Osun/Rivers). Female recipients included Akase Pati Ence Nguwasen (21A, Benue/Gombe) and Igwe Anne Chikaodi (23C, Enugu/Sokoto).
Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, praised the awardees for exemplifying excellence and thanked President Tinubu for his consistent support for youth development. “These young men and women have demonstrated outstanding character and have become true role models across the country,” he said.

He also applauded the recent increase in NYSC members’ monthly allowance from N33,000 to N77,000, stating that the move responds to current economic challenges rather than political considerations. “This change reflects our acknowledgement of the critical role young people play in building our nation,” he added.
NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Y.D. Olakunle Nafiu, described Nigerian youth as a driving force behind the nation’s progress and the preservation of its cultural and national values.
He commended the administration’s youth-centered policies and noted that the new allowance has boosted morale and reinforced corps members’ dedication.
