Speaking in Abuja, Ahanotu said his decision was driven by the urgent need for Nigeria to break away from the old order and allow a new generation of leadership to take charge.
According to him, young people have the ideas, energy, and sincerity needed to rescue the country from its current path.
“We cannot continue with recycled leadership. Nigeria needs a fresh start. We need to rebuild our institutions and restore hope in the system. That is what I intend to offer,” he said.
At 41, Ahanotu stressed that he is constitutionally qualified and mentally prepared to lead.
He made reference to former military Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, who led the country at a young age, adding that youth is not a disadvantage when paired with competence and courage.

He also confirmed that he would step down from his current role as Youth Leader when the time is right, to fully focus on his campaign.
His presidential ambition is further strengthened by the Labour Party’s decision to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the South-East.
The party leadership under National Chairman Julius Abure, agreed on the zoning arrangement as part of its broader effort to promote inclusion and equity within the party’s structure.

He noted that the move is expected to open space for emerging voices like Ahanotu, who not only represent the region but also the youth demographic.
Ahanotu’s entry into the race adds a fresh dimension to Labour Party’s future direction. While top figures like Peter Obi are still in the mix, Ahanotu’s candidacy signals a growing push within the party for generational transition and bold, reform-minded leadership.
As 2027 approaches, his campaign is expected to focus heavily on youth mobilization, economic reform, and institutional revival core issues he believes young Nigerians are passionate about.
