The Federal Government has unveiled plans to establish cattle breeding centres across Nigeria’s six geo-political zones, a move aimed at transforming livestock production and resolving age-old farmer-herder clashes.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that the announcement was made by the Minister of State for Agriculture, Dr. Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, during the Citizens’ Government Engagement and Midterm Review of the Tinubu Administration held in Kaduna on Wednesday. The event was organised by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Foundation.

According to the Minister, the initiative is part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and will be executed in collaboration with key ministries, including Agriculture, Environment, Water Resources, Livestock Development, and the Blue Economy. “This synergy is critical to delivering on the President’s vision for sustainable agricultural growth,” he said.
Here’s what you should know:
1. Nationwide Coverage: Each of Nigeria’s six geo-political zones will have at least one cattle breeding centre, aimed at boosting livestock production and reducing import dependence.
2. Economic and Security Focus: The initiative is expected to address not only food security and livestock health but also reduce the frequency of farmer-herder clashes across the country.
3. Backed by Stakeholders: The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has thrown its support behind the move, calling on state governors to follow suit by establishing livestock ministries in their states.
MACBAN’s president, Baba Othman Ngelzarma, commended the Tinubu administration for creating the Ministry of Livestock Development and urged Kaduna State to adopt the model.

Also speaking at the event, Governor Uba Sani, represented by Commissioner James Kanyip, urged Fulani communities in Kaduna to maintain peace and support ongoing reforms in the livestock sector.
