The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is looking to significantly strengthen its partnership with the National Orientation Agency (NOA) to improve how elections are conducted in Nigeria.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that, this call came from Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the Chairman of INEC, during a visit by Lanre Issa-Onilu, the Director-General of NOA, to INEC’s headquarters in Abuja.

Professor Yakubu emphasized that for INEC to effectively manage elections, it needs to work closely with all relevant national organizations, especially NOA, which plays a key role in informing and sensitizing citizens.
He highlighted that both INEC and NOA have offices reaching down to the local government areas, allowing them to connect directly with a large number of Nigerians at the community level.
The proposed collaboration aims to explore new ways of educating voters and publicizing electoral processes, potentially involving a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) Division within INEC’s ICT Department. A crucial aspect of this extended partnership is boosting voter participation.

NOA is expected to work alongside political parties, community groups, and the media to encourage more people to vote, particularly targeting groups that have been under-represented, such as young people, women, and persons with disabilities.
Furthermore, NOA has now been included as a member of the expanded Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES). INEC is also in the process of revitalizing the National Inter-Agency Committee on Voter Education and Publicity (NICVEP), where NOA will play a very active role.
This deepened cooperation aims to ensure more informed and engaged citizens, leading to a more robust electoral process in Nigeria.
