The project forms part of a broader ₦900 billion national plan aimed at upgrading aviation infrastructure across the country.
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, announced that the contract for the terminal renovation has been awarded to China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC).
The scope of work will include dismantling the existing structure down to its bare frame and installing brand new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
The rehabilitation plan also includes expanding Terminal Two in Lagos. Additional infrastructure will be built, such as a new aircraft apron, access roads, bridges, and support facilities.

To enhance airport security, the council also approved a ₦49.9 billion perimeter fencing project at the Lagos airport.
The 14.6 kilometre steel fence will be equipped with an intrusion detection system, CCTV surveillance, solar-powered floodlights, and a dedicated patrol route.
Keyamo added that a central command centre would be set up for real-time monitoring and response.
“Any object or person approaching the fence will be instantly detected, and the exact location identified,” he said.
