A 35-year-old man, Sabiu Abdullahi, has been sentenced to receive 50 strokes of the cane by a Sharia Court in Kano for stealing five roofing sheets.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Abdullahi admitted to the crime when he appeared in court, where he was charged with trespassing and theft.

The defendant, who resides in Mariri Quarters, Kano, was arraigned by the prosecution counsel, Zahradeen Abubakar, under sections 134 and 287 of the Kano State Penal Code Law.
According to the prosecution, on July 21, Anas Yakubu of Tamburawa Quarters reported the theft at the Mariri Police Station.
Abubakar told the court that the defendant stole the roofing sheets from Yakubu’s house while he was away.
Presiding over the case, Judge Umar Lawal ordered that Abdullahi be punished with 50 strokes of the cane.
