This decision comes as the war in Ukraine continues, amidst Russian forces having recently been very aggressive, following Trump’s previous warning to Russia to end the conflict or face new penalties. The new order to deploy submarines shows a sharp response.

Following the public disagreement started when Medvedev criticized Trump’s threat of sanctions. In a social media post, Medvedev made a vague reference to Russia’s nuclear “Dead Hand” system. In return, Trump called Medvedev “the failed former President of Russia” and told him to “watch his words.”
Both the White House and the Kremlin have declined to comment on President Trump’s recent statement. The lack of official information has created further uncertainty about the situation and the potential consequences for global relations.
