Clarence Peters has opened up about repeating his father Shina Peters’ mistakes, especially in relationships—marking a personal moment of reckoning and growth.
According to Eko Hot Blog, the popular Nigerian music video director, Clarence Peters, has revealed that he has made many of the same mistakes as his father, Afro-Juju legend Sir Shina Peters. In a rare moment of vulnerability, Clarence shared that growing up in the shadow of two famous parents left him emotionally bruised—and led him to repeat some of the very patterns he once resented.
EDITOR’S PICK:
Speaking during a podcast appearance, Clarence admitted that his mother, Clarion Chukwurah, suffered publicly and privately during her time with Shina Peters. According to him, the mistreatment she faced, even from colleagues in the industry, left a lasting impact.
Referencing a recent conversation with his father, Clarence explained how seeing Shina now actively seek forgiveness from God as he nears age 70 softened his own judgments. He confessed that he too had failed in relationships with women and recognized a pattern he never intended to follow.
“I realized I made the exact same mistakes,” Clarence said. “So how do I judge a man whose path I ended up on, despite trying to do things differently?”

According to Eko Hot Blog, Clarence also revealed he struggled with impostor syndrome for years. Despite directing some of Nigeria’s most iconic music videos, he often avoided taking credit for his work. He said being the son of two celebrities made him uncomfortable with attention and pushed him behind the scenes.
Eventually, it took encouragement from those close to him—especially his longtime collaborator, Ill Bliss to convince him to start putting his name on his projects. “People thought I was a ghost director,” he said, laughing.
Now older and more introspective, Clarence is choosing a different path—not by denying his past, but by owning it. He hopes his story will inspire others to examine their inherited patterns and break free through self-awareness.
