- Amotekun Receives UN Recognition, Afenifere Calls for More Support
- UN’s recognition, is seen as a morale booster and an endorsement of the security network
- The group is also leveraging this momentum to advocate for state police
The pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, has called on governors in the South-West states to take advantage of the recent United Nations’ recognition of the Amotekun security network to properly equip and empower the outfit.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the organization’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Jare Ajayi, stated that this international recognition, which Afenifere sees as a powerful endorsement of its decision to create the Amotekun corps, is a significant morale booster for the security network.

This recognition was made public when the President of the World Peace, Ambassador Peer Stafsen, presented a formal ‘certificate of affiliation’ to the Commandant of the Ondo State Amotekun Corps.
The organization further noted that Amotekun has received an invitation to attend meetings of the UN’s affiliates on security and human rights, a clear indication of its exemplary nature on the global stage. The international community has also recognized July 7 as “Amotekun Day,” an unprecedented honor for the local security network.
Afenifere believes this formal recognition by a global body like the UN is a clear sign that the establishment of the Amotekun outfit was a good step and that its continued existence is a testament to the resilience and vision of its creators.
Building on this momentum, Afenifere is also using this opportunity to push for the speedy establishment of a state police force across the country, arguing that the international recognition for Amotekun strengthens the case for local, community-based security initiatives.
This development, they believe, will bolster the confidence of the South-West governors to invest more in Amotekun and other state-run security operations.
