Augustine University, Ilara-Epe, Lagos State, has announced the appointment of Rev. Fr. Professor Anthony Alaba Akinwale, OP, as its third substantive Vice-Chancellor.
Eko hot blog reports that the appointment, made official by Sir Steve Bamidele Omojafor, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, will take effect from September 1, 2025, following the conclusion of Professor Christopher Odetunde’s tenure.

Rev. Fr. Akinwale, a Catholic priest of the Order of Preachers (Dominicans), is a distinguished scholar in Systematic Theology and Thomistic Philosophy.
He brings with him a wealth of academic and administrative experience, having served as the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of Dominican University, Ibadan from 2017 to 2022, and most recently as Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Augustine University since 2023.
Describing the appointment as a step forward in the institution’s mission, the Board of Trustees stated that the selection of Professor Akinwale aligns with the university’s commitment to academic excellence, moral integrity, and holistic education.

The Board commended the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Professor Odetunde, for his dedicated service, stating, “We are grateful for his leadership and the remarkable strides Augustine University has made under his guidance.”
In a congratulatory message, the Board noted that Akinwale’s elevation is “a reflection of his unwavering commitment to Catholic education and the values that define Augustine University.”
