EKO HOT BLOG reports that speaking during a media chat on Monday, Wike, a former Rivers State Governor, said there was intense pressure from some quarters to install Mark as the party’s national chairman during the leadership crisis in the North-Central zone, but he stood against it.
“Let me tell you something. When we started having issues of National Chairman in North-Central, there was pressure for David Mark to be National Chairman of PDP. We refused,” Wike said.
Explaining his stance, Wike questioned Mark’s contribution to the party and the nation during his eight-year tenure as Senate President.
“Why not? What good will he bring to the party? He has been a Senate President in the party for eight years. What are the things that happened? What is the improvement?” he asked.

The minister said he preferred a candidate without a long political history but with genuine intentions to drive reform and development.
“I prefer somebody who has not had any position, who has come to tell me, ‘Look, I am doing this because I want to help with change, to achieve this and that,’” he explained.
Wike criticised career politicians who had years in power but failed to make significant impact.
“I will not listen to anybody who has been in power for years, who has refused to contribute anything to the development of the country, and now comes to say, ‘We need to rescue this country.’ You were there when the country was sinking. Did you rescue it?” he queried.
