Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, returned to the country on Monday to a rousing hero’s welcome at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, following their historic triumph at the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that led by Head Coach Rena Wakama, the five-time champions arrived with the coveted trophy in hand, greeted by jubilant fans, cultural dancers, drummers, and basketball enthusiasts who gathered to celebrate their record-breaking achievement.
The victory cements Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s basketball, making them the first nation to win five Afrobasket titles consecutively.
The team is expected to proceed to the Presidential Villa, where they will be formally received by President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
In a congratulatory message released earlier, Tinubu praised the team’s dedication, teamwork, and consistency, describing their success as an inspiration to the nation.
D’Tigress sealed their historic run on Sunday by defeating Mali in the final at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan. Their emphatic performance reinforced their status as the powerhouse of women’s basketball in Africa.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu described them as a source of pride for the country, while other dignitaries commended their resilience and determination.
