A tragic incident unfolded on Monday afternoon in Jigawa State as a mob lynched a personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) during a routine assignment at the popular Shuwarin market in Kiyawa Local Government Area.
According to reports reaching Eko Hot Blog attack, which occurred around 2pm within the cattle trading section of the market, led to the untimely death of Superintendent Bashir Adamu Jibril, a senior officer attached to the Intelligence and Investigation Department of the NSCDC command in the state.

Confirming the development, the command’s Public Relations Officer, ASC Badruddeen Tijjani, described the act as barbaric and unprovoked.
“The officer was on official duty at the Shuwarin market when he was suddenly attacked by a group of individuals armed with knives. He sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital but was unfortunately confirmed dead by doctors,” he said.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that the mob, numbering several men, descended on the officer without warning, overpowering him and inflicting multiple stab wounds before fleeing the scene.
So far, three persons have been arrested in connection with the incident, while others believed to be involved are currently on the run.
Tijjani assured the public that the command, in collaboration with other security agencies, is intensifying efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects.
“We are committed to ensuring that justice is served. Investigations are ongoing, and once concluded, the suspects will be arraigned in court,” he said.
The NSCDC condemned the killing in strong terms and urged residents to remain calm and support ongoing investigations.
