In a significant development for the traditional leadership of Ibadanland, Dr. Rashidi Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo State, has been formally nominated to become the 44th Olubadan.
The nomination was a unanimous decision by the Olubadan-in-Council, following the recent passing of Oba Owolabi Olakulehin. The historic meeting took place at the new Olubadan Palace in Oke-Aremo.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the nomination process was swift and decisive. The motion was putting forward by the Balogun of Ibadan land, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, and was immediately seconded by the new Otun Olubadan, Oba Eddy Oyewole. This marks a crucial step in the long-standing tradition of selecting a new monarch for the ancient city.

With the council’s resolution now signed, the final and most important step is the approval of the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde. The official document will be sent to the governor, who is expected to ratify the council’s decision and present Ladoja with the staff of office.

Oba Ajibola, speaking on behalf of the council, expressed hope that Governor Makinde would not delay his assent. He emphasized the importance of filling the vacant stool quickly, stating that the position of the Olubadan cannot remain empty for an extended period.
He empahzei that once the governor gives his official nod, Dr. Rashidi Ladoja will officially ascend the throne as the Olubadan of Ibadanland, continuing the lineage of this revered traditional stool.
