At the inauguration ceremony on Tuesday, former Deputy National Chairman of the PDP, Chief Bode George, emphasized the significance of the committee’s role in repositioning the party for future success.
“This is a vital assignment necessary for the party’s progress,” George stated. “The National Executive Committee has approved the start of congresses from the ward to the state level, ending with the National Convention. Based on past experiences, we opted to begin this process internally.”
He noted that the committee members are not only experienced party stalwarts but also guardians of the party’s ideals. “Anyone vying for positions such as chairman or secretary will undergo screening by this committee. The goal is to reduce conflict and manipulation, which have previously hindered our unity.”
George likened the screening exercise to a preparatory test before the national convention. “This is about restoring civility, commitment, loyalty, and discipline to the PDP,” he said. “Aspiring leaders must be properly evaluated, their background, achievements, and integrity before being entrusted with responsibility.”
Chief Akitoye described the committee’s work as foundational to the party’s revival in Lagos and across Nigeria.
“If we succeed here, it will set a positive example for other states,” Akitoye said. “Traditionally, the selection of party officers has sparked internal divisions.
This initiative aims to resolve such issues and foster unity.”

He assured members of a fair and transparent process, expressing confidence in the committee’s ability to fulfill its mandate. “With God’s help, we will deliver,” he concluded.
Other members of the committee include Mrs. Onikepo Oshodi, Senator Kofoworola Bucknor-Akerele, Chief Aduke Maina, and Dr. Miran Adeniji, among others.
