President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Idia Nibukun Ize Iyamu as the new Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).
Eko Hot Blog gathered that she will succeed Professor Darlington Obaseki, whose tenure ends on August 18, 2025.

A distinguished academic, clinician, and administrator, Professor Ize Iyamu brings over 27 years of continuous service at UBTH to her new role.
She joined the hospital in 1997 as a Junior Registrar and steadily rose through the ranks, becoming an Honorary Consultant in 2005. She also served as Head of Department for more than eleven years.

Her appointment is seen as a strategic step to usher UBTH into a new phase of transformation, with expectations that she will drive reforms focusing on patient-centred care, technological advancement, and institutional excellence.
Beyond her administrative expertise, Professor Ize Iyamu is a respected educator and mentor, instrumental in training numerous doctors who now work as consultants or in renowned medical institutions.
She is currently the Dean of the School of Dentistry at the University of Benin and has authored more than 55 publications in reputable local and international journals.
