In a historic move to resolve one of the world’s longest-running territorial conflicts, the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan met at the White House on Friday to sign a peace agreement under U.S. mediation.
Eko Hot Blog reports that President Donald Trump stood at the center of the diplomatic breakthrough as Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan reached across him to shake hands—an image symbolic of a fresh chapter in South Caucasus relations.

Finalized after months of negotiations, the treaty is set to allow for the reopen of critical transport routes in the region and marks a strategic geopolitical win for Washington as Russia’s influence in the area wanes.

As part of the agreement, a new international transit corridor will be developed between Azerbaijan and its Nakhchivan exclave separated by a narrow strip of Armenian land.
The corridor will bear the name “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity,” a title U.S. officials said was originally proposed by the Armenian delegation.
Trump, speaking at the event, called the naming an incredible honor and said he never requested it.
A senior U.S. official who briefed journalists ahead of the summit described the initiative as part of a broader regional realignment led by the United States.
Aliyev credited the breakthrough to U.S. leadership, stating,
“President Trump accomplished in six months what others couldn’t do in decades.”
Pashinyan echoed the sentiment, describing the accord as a turning point that offers both nations a chance to rewrite history.
Trump, who has repeatedly portrayed himself as a global dealmaker, emphasized the conflict’s duration and his role in ending it.
“They fought for 35 years now they’re friends. We’ll definitely have to make a trip out there,” he told reporters.
