According to the ADC, the state is operating under a type of martial law, making the election an “absurd” situation.

An APC faction, led by Rotimi Amaechi, has criticized the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), accusing it of making up its own rules and disregarding a court order that confirmed their group’s leadership.
They also raised a red flag, noting that the voters’ register had not been updated, which could prevent many people from voting.

In a contrasting view, a different APC faction, led by Chief Tony Okocha, has expressed full support for the election. This group’s spokesperson stated that they are satisfied with the rules and timeline set by RSIEC and are ready to begin campaigning for their candidates.
