In a statement shared via Eko Hot Blog, Franklin responded to the swirling gossip that accused him of walking away with a luxury timepiece after the high-profile celebration. He emphasized the seriousness of the allegations, noting the challenging time: juggling family loss and public scrutiny.

Franklin clarified that during the event, jeweller Benny offered him a watch, which he declined after checking its previous ownership. However, Benny later had his brother deliver another watch one Ubi purchased and fully paid for to wear at the ceremony.
According to Ubi, in the chaos of attending to wedding duties and coping with personal tragedy, he unintentionally held onto both watches. He only realized the mix-up while on his flight back home for his sister’s funeral .

The music manager was explicit on his X (Twitter) account: “I am not a thief. I have never stolen from anyone in my life.” He added that Benny had earlier dismissed the theft claims, yet the story had already gained traction online .
Ubi also revealed that he rushed out of Miami to make arrangements back in Nigeria, drawing attention to the emotional turmoil surrounding his sister’s funeral and making this controversy all the more unwelcome. He concluded his statement by thanking those who reached out and affirming that his remark was “my final word on this.”
