- Comfort Emmanson’s Lawyer Speaks on Legal Options After Release from Kirikiri
- “On the way forward, whether Comfort will let the matter rest or not, she will inform us”

Comfort Emmanson, the Ibom Air passenger recently released from the Kirikiri Correctional Centre in Lagos after an altercation with the airline’s crew, has not decided whether to take legal action against the carrier.
Eko Hot Blog reports that her lawyer, Adefunke Maria, disclosed this on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Thursday, condemning the treatment her client allegedly received from a flight attendant who blocked her from disembarking after a flight from Akwa Ibom to Lagos last Sunday.

“On the way forward, whether Comfort will let the matter rest or not, she will inform us. She is a full grown adult. If she decides to press civil charges for compensation, she will let us know. For now, we cannot decide for her. She will get back to us,” Maria said, adding that her client “just needs to rest and put herself together.”
Viral videos captured a physical altercation between Emmanson and a flight attendant as security personnel attempted to intervene.
While some Nigerians criticised her aggressive reaction, others blamed the attendant for preventing her from leaving the aircraft.
Outrage also followed the alleged indecent exposure Emmanson suffered during the confrontation with ground staff at the Lagos airport.
Maria accused the airline’s staff of filming the incident and leaking the footage online, an act she condemned strongly.

Emmanson was arrested at the airport, arraigned in court, and remanded in prison the same day, a swift prosecution that sparked accusations of selective justice.
Many pointed to the recent case of Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as Kwam 1, who allegedly attempted to block a moving ValueJet aircraft in Abuja on August 5, 2025, but was not prosecuted.
On August 13, 2025, Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo ordered that all charges against Emmanson be withdrawn, which led to her release. He also directed airline operators to lift the lifetime flying ban imposed on her.
Despite her freedom, many social media users continue to urge her to pursue legal action. For now, her lawyer says she is focused on resting before making a final decision.
