Airline Operator Nigeria (AON) yesterday lifted the lifetime ban previously imposed on Ms. Comfort Emmanson for her unruly behaviour on an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos on August 10, 2025.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the decision followed the intervention of the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, who appealed for clemency.

AON spokesperson Prof. Obiora Okonkwo explained that the ban was lifted after considering Emmanson’s reported remorse, the withdrawal of the complaint, the dismissal of charges, and her release from custody. “This action is aimed at closing the matter while maintaining our commitment to safety and order,” he said.
Okonkwo emphasized that this does not signal any relaxation of industry discipline. “We maintain a zero-tolerance stance on unruly passenger conduct. Any future infractions will attract strict sanctions,” he warned

He added that incidents of disruptive behaviour would decrease if passengers understood the serious legal consequences, and that operators are committed to ensuring that crew, security personnel, and passengers are better informed and prepared.
He reiterated that lifting the ban was a singular act of clemency, not a change in policy. “It is about closing this chapter with the hope that lessons have been learned, allowing the sector to move forward with renewed focus on safety and discipline,” Okonkwo said.
Eyewitness David Ogede, who was seated next to Emmanson, provided insight into what triggered the incident. Speaking on Channels TV’s The Morning Brief, Ogede, a lawyer, said he was seated in 14B, across the aisle from Emmanson, and witnessed the entire episode.
According to Ogede, the first air hostess politely instructed passengers to switch off their phones. However, a second hostess, who confronted Emmanson, “came looking for trouble.”
Emmanson explained that her phone’s power button was faulty and asked for assistance, but the hostess refused to touch the device, directing her to navigate the phone settings herself. When Emmanson struggled, the hostess allegedly said, “I do not have time for your nonsense.”
Ogede said another passenger tried to intervene, asking the hostess to change her tone, but she ignored them. When Emmanson asked why she was being embarrassed, the hostess allegedly threatened, “If you say another word, I will deal with you.” Emmanson then reacted angrily, using strong language. The hostess left and did not return.
“The gentleman beside her eventually helped switch off the phone. Some passengers thought she refused to comply, but she was only seeking assistance,” Ogede said. He added that the situation could have been avoided if handled by the first, more professional hostess.
Meanwhile, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, also known as KWAM 1, who was involved in a similar airport incident, told journalist that he has accepted his appointment by the federal government as ambassador for proper airport security protocol.
His manager, Kunle Rasheed, said the appointment reflects the government’s recognition of KWAM 1’s remorse and his commitment to community service.
