Nigeria has lost one of its respected elder statesmen and business icons, Alhaji Isyaku Ibrahim, who passed away in the early hours of Saturday at a private medical facility in Abuja. He was aged 88.
According to Eko Hot Blog, Alhaji Ibrahim, known for his firm political convictions and deep involvement in the formation of the National Party of Nigeria (NPN), the ruling party during the Second Republic, hailed from Mangar in Farin Ruwa, Wamba Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

A man of diverse interests and enduring legacy, he was not only a key political figure but also a pioneer in Nigerian sports. He founded the Mighty Jets Football Club of Jos in the 1970s and made history as the first Nigerian club owner to engage a foreign coach from Brazil. His passion for football saw him invest millions of naira into the club, providing them with a luxury bus and supporting their rise to prominence.
Alhaji Isyaku Ibrahim was also among the first Nigerians to own a private aircraft an uncommon feat during his time.
His death was confirmed by his nephew, Dr. Musa Ibrahim, a retired federal permanent secretary, who announced the passing with a heavy heart and deep reverence for his uncle’s contributions to the nation.

“With full submission to the will of the Almighty, I wish to announce the passing of my uncle, Alhaji Isyaku Ibrahim—an extraordinary figure in Nigeria’s political and philanthropic landscape,” he said.
Describing the deceased, Dr. Ibrahim noted that he was a man of principle and deep patriotism. “He was one of the few Northern leaders who truly prioritized the interest of the region and the country at large. May Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal peace.”
According to family sources, the Janaza prayer will take place at the National Mosque in Abuja immediately after the Zuhr prayer.
