He explained that the government had made agriculture, healthcare, education, and transportation top priorities in the region, breaking away from what he described as years of neglect.
Among the initiatives rolled out, he listed youth agriculture support programmes, student education loans, the “Skill Up Artisan” scheme, and affordable housing projects. According to him, these interventions are already making a difference in people’s lives.
The minister also highlighted the establishment of a cancer treatment centre in Enugu and the upgrade of mother-and-child centres in Abia and Imo states, stressing that the facilities were helping to curb preventable deaths.
“These projects are not just milestones on paper; they are visible, tangible results of governance at work. The best is yet to come,” he assured.

Idris urged residents of the Southeast to embrace these opportunities and support efforts aimed at delivering more development to communities.
The programme also featured a lecture delivered by the Zonal Manager of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) for Abia and Imo states, Mr Sam Oditah, titled Southeast Milestones of President Bola Tinubu’s Administration.
Oditah commended the government’s progress in agriculture, rail expansion, road construction, and skill acquisition despite lingering doubts in some quarters.
He, however, appealed to President Tinubu to urgently rehabilitate the Umuahia to Ikot Ekpene road as well as the Umuahia to Bende to Ohafia to Arochukwu federal highways, which he described as being in a deplorable state.
