A tragic incident occurred on Friday morning at Amakpu Okuku community in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State when a man in his 50s, identified simply as Odomma, was found dead after allegedly taking his own life.
Eko Hot Blog reports that residents said Odomma, a father of four who sold water in jerry cans and buckets, had been battling severe financial hardship, which left him unable to cater for himself and his family.

His body was discovered hanging inside an uncompleted building near his home as people were heading out for their daily activities.
According to villagers, Odomma had previously threatened to take his life about three months ago, lamenting that his wife and children had allegedly stopped giving him food because he could no longer provide for the household.
A community member, identified as Ikenna, told The Punch that the deceased had confided in a few close friends about his struggles.
“He said if things continued this way, he would end his life to escape the suffering. We advised him to take the matter to the village head for settlement, but sadly, he chose this path. It is painful that he took his life over money issues. He could have sold his GP tank or generator to get food, but he decided otherwise. Now people will gather to eat, and he will no longer be part of it,” Ikenna said.

Eyewitnesses reported that tens of residents rushed to the scene after the news broke, crowding the uncompleted building to see the lifeless body and record videos with their phones.
Odomma, who was well known in the area for selling water priced from ₦100 upwards, was described by neighbours as hardworking but visibly distressed in recent months.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer for Imo State, Henry Okoye, said he would confirm the incident with the Divisional Police Officer of Owerri West.
“Please give me some minutes to call and verify from the DPO of Owerri West Local Government Area. I will get back to you shortly,” he said.
However, subsequent attempts to reach him were unsuccessful as his phone remained unreachable.
More details will follow as the story develops.
