The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Sokoto State Council has called on the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to ensure a transparent and effective system for distributing relief materials to victims of a recent boat mishap.
According to Eko Hot Blog, the union, in a 20-point communiqué issued after its congress on Saturday, emphasized the importance of delivering donated items directly to the genuine victims.

The NUJ also urged the state government to reduce the prices of goods at Kantin Sauki outlets, following a recent drop in food and essential commodity prices.

On environmental matters, the union called for more refuse dump sites, stricter enforcement of environmental laws, and action against indiscriminate tree felling.
Addressing insecurity, the congress appealed to the government and security agencies to intensify their efforts against banditry. It also called for measures to ensure that subsidized fertilizers and farm inputs reach genuine farmers without the interference of middlemen.
The union concluded by commending the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Musa, for his good relations with the NUJ and for delivering a lecture on the role of communities and social media in security management.
The congress also expressed sympathy for the families affected by the boat mishap and praised the state government’s quick intervention and preventive measures.
