The Minister of State for Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, on Monday unveiled a digital portal for the Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) and launched a Strategic Vision aimed at repositioning the teaching profession as the bedrock of national transformation.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Dr. Alausa, while speaking at the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) Digital Centre in Kado, Abuja, said the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises education as a driver of development.

“The TRCN portal represents a new dawn. It is not just a technological innovation but a promise that every Nigerian teacher will be recognised, supported and empowered to deliver quality education,” Alausa said.
He explained that the platform would streamline teacher registration, licensing and renewal, enable examination scheduling, track professional development, and provide a national database to guide education policy. The minister also announced a Teacher Ethics and Criminal Record Verification Framework, making background checks compulsory for all teachers in public and private schools.
“This is not punitive, it is protective. It is about safeguarding our children and upholding the moral integrity of our classrooms,” he stressed.

Registrar of TRCN, Dr. Ronke Soyombo, described the unveiling as a fulfilment of her pledge to digitise the council’s operations within her first 100 days in office.
“From today, every teacher in Nigeria can register and print their certificate from the comfort of their homes,” she said. “We have also signed a service level agreement to ensure results from the Professional Qualifying Examination are released within one week.”
Soyombo added that the new system would allow parents to verify teachers’ certification status online and provide learning resources for professional examinations. She said TRCN had also reduced PQE subjects from 23 to five core areas which include literacy, numeracy, digital literacy, safeguarding and pedagogy.
“With this platform, a teacher in Katsina now has the same access and opportunities as a teacher in Lagos. It makes the process faster, transparent and more inclusive,” she said.
The launch was attended by education stakeholders, development partners and private school leaders, who hailed the reform as a step toward raising teacher professionalism and improving learning outcomes across Nigeria.
