The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has personally rewarded Nigerian students who emerged global champions at the 2025 TeenEagle English Competition in London, presenting them with cash prizes in recognition of their outstanding achievements, Eko Hot Blog reports.
Seventeen-year-old Nafisa Abdullahi Aminu of Yobe State, crowned the world’s best in English Language Skills, received a cheque of ₦200,000, while other winners were given between ₦100,000 and ₦150,000 for excellence across categories including debate, spelling bee, productive skills, and talent presentation.

Speaking at the award ceremony, Dr. Alausa praised the students for placing Nigeria and Africa prominently on the global stage of academic excellence. He described their achievements as a testament to the brilliance of Nigerian youth and the transformative impact of consistent support in education.
The minister also commended Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni for revitalizing the state’s education system after years of insurgency and encouraged other leaders to emulate such commitment.
“We are immensely proud of these children. Their success proves that with the right support, Nigerian students can compete with the best in the world,” Dr. Alausa said.

He added that the Federal Government will continue to expand scholarships, mentorship programs, and access to quality learning resources to nurture future champions.
Minister of State for Education, Professor Swaiba Said Ahmad, described the students’ success as a national victory that highlights the intelligence, creativity, and resilience of Nigerian youths.
She emphasized that such achievements align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to reposition education for excellence and encouraged students to view their recognition as the start of greater opportunities and inspiration for their peers.
Yobe State Commissioner for Basic Education, Prof. Abba Adam, lauded the students’ performance as a symbol of resilience and progress, highlighting ongoing investments in infrastructure, teacher recruitment, school feeding, and scholarships that have yielded these global successes.
Nafisa, in her remarks, expressed gratitude to her parents, teachers, and the minister for his support.
She dedicated her success to the resilience of Yobe State’s education system and introduced her project, English Language for Peace and Development, aimed at promoting literacy, dialogue, and social cohesion among young people.
Other Nigerian winners included Oluwasemilore Samuelle Akinyemi, overall first-place winner in TeenEagle 2; Cara Victor Antai, third-place and silver medalist in Spelling Bee; Jayden Kwalmi, best in Spelling Bee and most outstanding talent; and Rukayya Muhammad, Hadiza Kashim Kalli, Mansata Njai, and Fatim B. Njai, who excelled in various categories.
The celebration brought together dignitaries from the Federal Ministry of Education and representatives of the Yobe State Ministry of Education.
The Federal Ministry of Education reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing the talents of Nigerian children and ensuring that every learner is equipped to shine on the global stage.
