EKO HOT BLOG reports that Marafa made his decision public in a video message delivered in Hausa to his supporters. He explained that his exit followed two days of consultations with stakeholders and party loyalists on the state of the APC both in Zamfara and across Nigeria.
The former lawmaker accused the APC of failing to uphold fairness and unity, stressing that the party has been hijacked by factions loyal to different leaders. According to him, the crisis in Zamfara reached its peak after Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State took over the leadership of the APC from former Zamfara governor and current Defence Minister, Bello Matawalle.
“In the state, the betrayal is at its highest peak because since Bala Buni took over the affairs of the party from former governor Matawalle, they have not held a single meeting up till this moment,” Marafa said.
He added that the party has been split into two factions, one loyal to Buni and the other to Matawalle, with no resolution in sight despite being asked repeatedly to settle their differences for more than two years.
Marafa noted that this persistent division and lack of internal cohesion informed his decision to withdraw his membership. He, however, said he would continue consultations before deciding on his next political move.
“So, because of these, I have decided to quit the APC party, and I will continue my consultation to see if, in no distant time, I will announce my new party,” he stated.

Marafa previously represented Zamfara Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly and was a prominent voice during the 2019 APC internal crisis in the state, which led to the party losing its candidates’ victories to opposition parties due to unresolved legal disputes.
