Two former Manchester United managers, Ole Gunnar Solskjær and José Mourinho, have both been dismissed from their roles in Turkey after failing to secure European competition football for their respective clubs.
Beşiktaş confirmed on Thursday that they had parted ways with Ole Gunnar Solskjær following the club’s exit from the UEFA Conference League play-off round against Swiss side Lausanne.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Norwegian manager, who joined the Istanbul side in January 2025, guided them to a fourth-place finish in the Süper Lig last season but failed to deliver continental qualification this campaign.
In a statement, the club said: “Our contract with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær has been terminated following a decision made at a board meeting. Our chairman, Serdal Adalı, thanked Solskjær for his services to date.”
Beşiktaş has since begun its search for a new manager, with former Borussia Dortmund midfielder and coach Nuri Şahin strongly linked to the role.
Just hours later, Fenerbahçe announced the dismissal of José Mourinho after their elimination from the UEFA Champions League qualifying round against Portuguese giants Benfica.
Mourinho, who was appointed earlier this year with high expectations, was tasked with securing group-stage qualification but failed at the first attempt. Reports of dressing-room tensions, coupled with mixed pre-season results, influenced the club’s decision.
Fenerbahçe disclosed that an interim coach will be appointed while the search for a permanent replacement continues.
Both managers share a common link to Manchester United. Mourinho, appointed in 2016, won the Community Shield, League Cup, and Europa League in his first season before being sacked in 2018. Solskjær succeeded him as caretaker in December 2018, was later confirmed as permanent manager, but was dismissed in November 2021 after a poor run of form.

Their departures from Turkey mark another chapter in the turbulent managerial careers of the two high-profile tacticians.
