EKO HOT BLOG reports that Obasanjo, who arrived at the Alaafin’s palace in Oyo Town with his daughter, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, and a delegation of dignitaries, was warmly received before going into a closed-door meeting with the monarch.
A palace source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that the discussions were highly confidential but focused largely on the need for greater collaboration among Yoruba traditional institutions.
According to the source, Obasanjo, as an elder statesman with decades of political influence, emphasised that the prosperity of the Yoruba people depends on close cooperation between political leadership and traditional authorities.
“The meeting was highly confidential, and the primary focus was on strengthening the unity of our traditional institutions. Both leaders recognised that for the Yoruba people to thrive, the various traditional bodies must work together seamlessly. This meeting was a crucial step toward achieving unity. Our heritage and traditions are invaluable, but we must ensure they contribute to the progress of our people,” the source said.
The Alaafin, in his remarks during the talks, was said to have stressed the importance of collective action and solidarity among the Yoruba.
Quoting the monarch, the source added, “Our race has always been strong because of our unity. In today’s world, the Yoruba people need both political will and traditional guidance. Together, we can chart a path that ensures the welfare of our people and the preservation of our culture.”

The meeting, according to the palace insider, was aimed at laying the groundwork for stronger collaboration that will safeguard Yoruba heritage while promoting socio-political progress across the southwest.
