The ancient crown and royal beads belonging to the Apetu of Ipetumodu in Ife North Local Government Area of Osun State have reportedly disappeared, sparking tension and uncertainty in the historic town.
The development comes barely two weeks after a U.S. District Judge, Christopher A. Boyko, sentenced the monarch, Oba Joseph Oloyede, to 56 months in prison over a $4.2 million COVID-19 fraud case.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that sources allege that aides and loyalists of the monarch were behind the removal of the Aare crown and beads from his residence, which had been serving as the palace after he demolished the original ancient structure. Reports indicate that a woman and some aides were tasked with evacuating the sacred regalia.
A chieftain from one of the ruling houses expressed deep concern, warning that the disappearance of the crown and beads could bring serious consequences for the community, especially during future succession processes.
“The crown is missing, and those behind this act have no idea of the spiritual backlash on our town. They are courting the fury of the deities of this great ancient community. It is in their best interest to return the crown and royal beads before it is too late,” he said.
Oba Oloyede, who holds dual Nigerian and American citizenship, was arrested in May 2025 in the United States alongside Pastor Edward. His conviction has since fueled calls among princes and ruling houses for his replacement.
A visit to Ipetumodu during the week revealed a community shrouded in disappointment and uncertainty. While economic life and commercial activities in markets continued undisturbed, the mood in the town was heavy, with hushed conversations about the missing regalia and the embarrassment surrounding the monarch’s conviction.

For a community renowned for its rich royal heritage and revered traditional leadership, the loss of its sacred crown and beads has deepened concerns over the future of its stool and the integrity of its age-old traditions.
