EKO HOT BLOG reports that the new deal is expected to keep him playing well beyond the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
A reliable source close to the player revealed that the agreement is in place and a formal announcement will be made within the next two weeks.
This deal would likely see Messi play out the rest of his illustrious career in the MLS.
Messi joined Inter Miami in 2023 after a challenging spell at Paris Saint-Germain. Before that, he spent over 17 years at Barcelona, where he rose through the ranks and went on to win 10 La Liga titles and four UEFA Champions League trophies.
In 2022, he led Argentina to World Cup triumph in Qatar. The veteran attacker has shown interest in defending the title in 2026, and this new deal keeps him active and match-fit until then.
Despite Inter Miami’s early exit in the playoffs, Messi was named the league’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) for the 2024 season.
By 2025, he also became the fastest player in MLS history to hit 40 goals.
According to the source, “Lionel wants to stay competitive and continue at the top level leading up to and after the 2026 World Cup.”
The deal signals Messi’s long-term commitment to both Inter Miami and the North American football scene.
