Witness accounts suggest that the inferno, which broke out while residents were still asleep, consumed equipment and other valuables reportedly worth millions of naira.
Confirming the incident, the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Mr. Maroof Akinwande, said firefighters were swiftly dispatched to the location after the agency received an emergency alert.
“We received the fire alert at exactly 4:15 a.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2025.
Once the address was confirmed, our team, under the leadership of Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent Bamidele Samsudeen, was immediately mobilised to the scene,” he explained.
He urged the public to always report fire emergencies without delay and to provide accurate details to help the fire service respond as quickly as possible.
Akinwande’s advice comes amid a troubling trend of frequent fire incidents in Oyo State.
Just days earlier, on September 16, a separate blaze ravaged six rooms at Akinsoji zone in Ogbere Moradeyo, Oremeji, within Egbeda Local Government Area.
Eyewitnesses claimed the fire was triggered by a carelessly discarded cigarette stub by one of the tenants.
