EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a statement on Sunday, September 21, 2025, signed by its Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA said the arrests were made at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, and other locations.
One suspect, 46-year-old Ofoma Sunday, was intercepted on September 16 after arriving from Brazil via Ethiopia. A body scan revealed drug ingestion, and under observation, he excreted 111 wraps of heroin weighing 1.45kg. Operatives later arrested 55-year-old Nweke Jude Chukwudi, the alleged receiver, at a hotel in Amuwo Odofin, Lagos.
Another suspect, Ukachukwu Frank Ikechukwu, was arrested on September 19, after expelling five wraps of cocaine weighing 145 grams. He confessed to initially carrying nine wraps in Brazil but said he discarded two in a toilet due to anal pain while transiting through Ethiopia.
On September 14, Okolonkwo Ebere Theresa, a businesswoman from Enugu, was caught at Lagos airport while attempting to board a Qatar Airways flight to Doha. She had 1.40kg of methamphetamine concealed in butt pad underwear, admitting she was lured into trafficking despite running a second-hand clothing and POS business.
NDLEA also intercepted 2.3kg of meth hidden in food items bound for Hong Kong and 257 grams of cocaine concealed in seven phone chargers heading to New Zealand.
Outside Lagos, operatives recovered 233,800 tramadol pills in Adamawa, seized a truck loaded with over one ton of cannabis in Zamfara, and destroyed two cannabis farms spanning four hectares in Edo, yielding over 11,000kg of plants.
Commending the operatives, NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) said the seizures represented “a significant milestone” in dismantling drug cartels preying on Nigerian youths. He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to combating trafficking and safeguarding the nation’s image.

The agency added that its formations nationwide continued the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign in schools, religious centres, workplaces, and communities throughout the week.
