EKO HOT BLOG reports that the political crisis, triggered by a prolonged rift between Governor Fubara and the Rivers State House of Assembly, had stalled executive–legislative cooperation, including the passage of the 2025 budget. In March, President Tinubu intervened by declaring a state of emergency, suspending both the governor and the legislature, and appointing retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas to administer the state.
The suspension expired on September 18, paving the way for Fubara and the lawmakers, led by Speaker Martins Amaewule, to resume their offices.
In a joint statement on Monday, Senator Bari Mpigi and House of Representatives members Dum Dekor, Kingsley Chinda, and Cyril Hart applauded Tinubu’s decision, describing it as a mark of his commitment to democratic principles. They urged the governor and the Assembly to recommit themselves to governance through cooperation, unity, and reconciliation.
“We note that, though the invocation of emergency rule on March 18, 2025, elicited mixed reactions, members of the caucus are happy that President Tinubu, being a democrat, has taken the right decision for the resumption of all democratic apparatus in the State. Indeed, this has further shown his commitment to democratic norms, peace, unity, and development of Rivers State and the entire country,” the statement read.

The caucus appealed to elders, leaders, and residents to support Fubara and the Assembly, stressing that unity among political actors is critical to consolidating peace and development after months of turbulence.
They further pledged to safeguard the interests of Rivers State and work for a harmonious and progressive relationship among all stakeholders.
