The Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has congratulated Nigerian-born athlete Jovan Olafioye on his induction into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame, Class of 2025.

Olafioye, who built an outstanding career in the Canadian Football League (CFL), played eight seasons with the BC Lions, winning the Grey Cup championship in 2011. He was named a multiple-time CFL All-Star and clinched the league’s Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman award in 2012, cementing his reputation as one of the most reliable offensive line leaders in the league.

“This honour is not only a significant personal accomplishment for Olafioye but also a reflection of the Nigerian diaspora’s growing influence in global sports,” Dabiri-Erewa said.
She added that Olafioye’s success illustrates the resilience and determination of Nigerians worldwide. “His story will inspire young Nigerians and aspiring athletes, both at home and abroad, by showing that hard work and perseverance can lead to recognition at the highest levels of professional sport,” she said.
