Eko Hot Blog reports that the award was presented during a one-day stakeholders’ engagement in Lagos, themed “Advancing Social Protection through the National Social Register (NSR).” Sanwo-Olu was represented by the Deputy Chief of Staff, Sam Egube, who reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to strengthening social safety nets across the state.

The state government was commended for its initiatives aimed at improving the lives of vulnerable citizens, particularly through the NSR, a database now considered one of the world’s largest social protection platforms.
With more than 19 million households and individual members captured, and enhanced by the integration of the National Identification Number (NIN), the register is seen as a credible tool for delivering targeted interventions.

Egube praised President Bola Tinubu for repositioning the NSR, noting that it has become central to the distribution of aid and welfare support.
Lagos has also rolled out programmes such as the OUNJE EKO food subsidy scheme, designed to improve access to affordable, nutritious food for low-income households. In addition, the government has decentralised social protection governance by setting up local committees, ensuring grassroots participation in tackling issues like food insecurity and malnutrition.
