The decision was disclosed on Wednesday, October 1, in a statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi. The statement confirmed that the dissolution took immediate effect.
Governor Fubara had earlier held a private valedictory session with members of his cabinet at Government House, Port Harcourt. The session, which also formed part of the state’s activities to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, provided an opportunity for the governor to commend his commissioners and appointees for their dedication to the growth and development of Rivers State over the last two years.
“Your contributions have been invaluable to the progress of our state. I sincerely appreciate your service and commitment to our people,” the governor reportedly said during the session.
While reflecting on the significance of Nigeria’s Independence, Fubara urged citizens to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration in fostering peace, security, and prosperity across the country. He also assured Rivers residents of his renewed commitment to serve with vigour and thanked them for their continuous support.
Meanwhile, Governor Fubara had earlier cancelled the Independence Day parade scheduled for Wednesday. The Permanent Secretary of the Special Services Bureau, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Friday Dede, announced the cancellation in line with a directive from the Federal Government, noting that the state government regretted any inconvenience caused to the public.
The dissolution of the cabinet marks a major political shake-up in Rivers State, signaling fresh realignments in the governor’s administration following the Supreme Court’s decision.
