“This strategic move is anticipated to benefit about 10 million displaced households, with a strong emphasis on the welfare of the most underprivileged members of society. The cash transfer scheme is scheduled to kick off from February and extend until April, with a primary focus on meeting the immediate needs of families impacted by displacement, particularly in the Northeast region.”
“Furthermore, the government has sanctioned an additional N2 billion to furnish interest-free loans to farmers, especially those dwelling in rural regions, aimed at rejuvenating food production and enhancing self-sustainability within these communities.”
Speaking on these developments, Professor Yilwada emphasized the prioritization of women, particularly widows, pregnant women, and those grappling with disabilities. He underscored the unique challenges faced by displaced women, especially those dealing with pregnancy or disabilities, recognizing the importance of providing tailored support to those in dire need.
“President’s endorsement has paved the way for the initiation of conditional cash transfers to 10 million displaced households between February and April, underlining the government’s determination to assist the most vulnerable sectors of society, particularly families undergoing displacement.”
“In addition to this cash transfer program, the government has earmarked N2 billion to extend interest-free loans to farmers residing in rural communities – an initiative expected to dispense loans ranging from N300,000 to N400,000 per household. This financial support aims to empower farmers with essential resources while establishing links to lucrative market opportunities.”
“A separate provision of N4 billion has been allocated to bolster support for susceptible groups through cash transfers, with a focal point on families impacted by natural disasters and other crises. These interventions are an integral aspect of the government’s overarching strategy to combat poverty and offer relief to those in urgent need.”
