EKO HOT BLOG reports that the crisis erupted after the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, announced the dissolution of the State Working Committee (SWC) and the appointment of a 31-member caretaker committee to oversee the party’s affairs in the state.
However, the National Secretary of the PDP, Samuel Anyanwu, swiftly issued a counter statement dismissing the claim, insisting that no meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) was held where such a decision was reached.
Reacting to the development, Akwa Ibom PDP Chairman, Aniekan Akpan, condemned the purported dissolution, describing it as illegal and unconstitutional. He maintained that the state executive remains valid until the expiration of its four-year tenure.
Addressing journalists at the secretariat, Akpan, flanked by members of the SWC allegedly sacked, said the reports of their removal were politically motivated and designed to destabilize the party in the state. He explained that some executive members were falsely listed as part of the caretaker committee without their consent.
“The PDP in Akwa Ibom State wishes to address recent misinformation claiming the dissolution of our duly elected State Executive Committee. We categorically state that these reports are false and unconstitutional,” he said.
Akpan urged members and supporters to disregard what he called a “false narrative,” stressing that the state party remains united under his leadership. He reaffirmed loyalty to Governor Umo Eno, describing him as a leader who governs across party lines.

“The party cannot separate us from Governor Umo Eno. He is governor for all Akwa Ibom people, and standing with him does not amount to anti-party activity,” Akpan declared.
The leadership tussle has deepened internal divisions within the PDP in Akwa Ibom, raising concerns about stability ahead of the 2027 general elections.
