President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday received the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), Arsenio Dominguez, in Lagos, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to repositioning Nigeria’s maritime industry as a strategic alternative to fossil energy.
Eko Hot Blog reports that in a statement by Osagie Edward, Deputy Director and Head of Public Relations at the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), the president emphasized that the recently signed National Maritime Policy was a deliberate step to entrench global best practices and enhance the competitiveness of Nigeria’s maritime sector.

Commending Nigeria’s progress, Dominguez applauded the Federal Government for its achievements in maritime safety and security, especially in protecting the Gulf of Guinea.

He assured that the United Nations agency stands ready to deepen collaboration with Nigeria to sustain the successes recorded so far.
The Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, led the IMO chief and other industry stakeholders to the engagement.
Other dignitaries present included the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Oloruntola; NIMASA Director General, Dr. Dayo Mobereola; Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dr. Abubakar Dansoho; and Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Bola Oyebamiji.
