“I hereby tender my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at all levels of involvement,” he wrote.
Melaye, a former PDP governorship candidate in Kogi State, noted that his decision was born out of frustration with the party’s inability to offer credible solutions to Nigeria’s problems.

“This decision has become imperative due to the lack of potency and capacity by the party to deliver the Nigerian people from the prevailing political cankerworms that have eaten deeply into the fabric of our dear nation,” he said.
He added that his conscience would no longer allow him to remain part of the PDP’s activities or support its agenda.
“Having carefully reflected on the state of the party, I can no longer in good conscience participate in the activities of the parties or lend my support to her agenda,” he said.
“In view of the above, please consider this as my formal withdrawal from the party and all its activities at all levels with immediate effect.”
Melaye expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve under the PDP, stating, “Thank you for the opportunity to serve under the platform during my period of membership.”
His exit adds to the growing list of high-profile resignations from the opposition party, which has struggled with internal discord and public discontent.
Recently, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar also quit the PDP.
Atiku’s resignation letter, dated July 14, 2025, was shared by Dele Momodu and addressed to the PDP chairman in his local ward in Adamawa State.
“As a founding father of this esteemed Party, it is indeed heartbreaking for me to make this decision,” Atiku stated.
He said the party’s current trajectory had drifted far from its founding principles, leaving him with no choice but to step aside.
Both Melaye and Atiku, along with other political figures such as Nasir El-Rufai, David Mark, Rotimi Amaechi, and Rauf Aregbesola, have now aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
