Dangote Petroleum Refinery has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his timely intervention in resolving its recent dispute with the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), describing the President’s leadership as instrumental in averting what it called a potential disruption of the nation’s energy sector.
Eko Hot Blog reports that in a statement issued on Sunday, the company said the President’s mediation, through key ministers and senior government officials, ensured the restoration of order and stability at a critical moment for the country’s oil and gas industry.

PENGASSAN had last week shut down major oil and gas facilities nationwide, alleging that Dangote Refinery sacked about 800 workers for joining the union. The strike was suspended on Wednesday following the Federal Government’s intervention.
“Dangote Refinery is grateful to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu, for his intervention, through his ministers and senior officials, which resulted in the abatement of the disruptive actions of PENGASSAN against the refinery,” the statement read.
The company praised senior government figures, including the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; DSS Director General, Adeola Ajayi; and NIA Director General, Mohammed Mohammed, for their “tireless efforts” in restoring calm. It also lauded the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Mohammed Dingyadi, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Bagudu, and the Minister of State for Labour, Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, for what it described as their patriotism and national service.

The refinery further expressed gratitude to Nigerians for their overwhelming public support during the crisis.
“Your support for our righteous cause was both humbling and overwhelming,” the company stated. “We heard your supportive voices and words of encouragement in every street corner and media channel across Nigeria.”
It accused unnamed individuals of attempting to sabotage national progress, pledging to continue defending Nigeria’s economic interests against “rent seekers and economic saboteurs.”
Dangote Refinery also commended its workers for their loyalty and resilience during the period of industrial tension, noting that operations were not disrupted despite “provocative and inciting comments” from detractors.
“The strength of Dangote Group lies in our people and their unalloyed dedication and allegiance to our cause, mission and vision,” it said.
Reaffirming its reputation as one of Nigeria’s foremost private employers, the company described Dangote Group as “a model private sector player committed to fair employment practices and national development.”
The refinery also commended the Nigerian judiciary for upholding the rule of law and protecting the company’s rights during the dispute, accusing PENGASSAN of refusing to accept valid court orders restraining its actions.
“The judiciary proved itself as the bastion of hope for all,” the company said. “It is unfortunate that some actors publicly displayed their lawlessness by rejecting service of court orders.”
Dangote Refinery reiterated its commitment to Nigeria’s industrial growth and uninterrupted production of petroleum products, vowing to remain focused despite “distractions from detractors and saboteurs.”
The refinery had been at the centre of a labour dispute with PENGASSAN, which disrupted operations before government intervention restored calm. The development came amid wider industry tensions over fuel supply and pricing.
