A Nigerian Army officer, Lieutenant Samson Haruna, has died from severe burns after he was allegedly set ablaze by his wife during a domestic dispute at the Wellington Bassey Barracks in Ibagwa, Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the tragic incident reportedly occurred on September 22, 2025. According to military sources, Lt. Haruna, who served as the Regimental Medical Officer (RMO) of the 6 Battalion, had a heated argument with his wife, identified as Mrs. Samson Haruna, which took a deadly turn.
A counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, who disclosed the incident on 𝕏, said the disagreement escalated when the woman allegedly poured petrol on her husband and set him on fire.
The officer was rushed to the Military Reference Section within the barracks for emergency treatment before being transferred to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital for advanced medical care. Despite several efforts by medical professionals, Lt. Haruna could not survive the burns and was later confirmed dead.
Security operatives have since arrested Mrs. Haruna, who is currently in custody as investigations continue to uncover the circumstances surrounding the fatal attack.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the military community, with colleagues and residents expressing deep sorrow over the tragic loss of the young officer.
