EKO HOT BLOG reports that Makinde made this known on Thursday during a stakeholders’ consultative and engagement meeting on the 2026 budget held in Ibadan, the state capital.
He said the people of Oyo State are now politically aware and would critically evaluate every candidate before making their choice.
“The decision on who would be the next governor rests with the people of Oyo State,” Makinde said. “We will make our own submission to the people because Oyo State has gone beyond stunt politics.”
The governor said the era of emotional slogans and blind endorsements is over, noting that voters now ask tough questions about credibility, competence, and integrity.
“Gone are the days of ‘let’s just allow him to do it.’ Oyo people now demand accountability,” he added.
Makinde also accused the Federal Government of trying to “demonise” state governors by creating the impression that they are hoarding public funds.
He argued that despite increased federal allocations, the actual value of money has been weakened by inflation and poor purchasing power.
According to him, his administration remains focused on governance and economic growth, not succession politics, emphasizing that the 2026 budget consultation reinforces his people-oriented approach.
